In this month’s Podcast Club release, we’re tuning into an episode of the Ag Policy Connection podcast. Host Kelvin Heppner explores what motivates farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices and how policies can encourage change. Joining him are Fred Lozeman, a farmer and rancher from Alberta; Ian McCreary, a crop and livestock farmer from Saskatchewan; and Lyndsey Smith of Shady Creek Lamb Co. in Ontario.
From the show notes: “Farmers and ranchers face many pressures from food companies, lenders, and government to adopt more sustainable practices. Based on a survey work by RealAgristudies, 27% of Canadian farmers participated in sustainability programs, while only 14% said incentives drove their decision. What motivates producers to make these changes? This episode delves into successful policies and the role of government.”
If you’re interested in agricultural policy and what drives on-farm decision-making, you won’t want to miss this episode.
