FARM SHARE OPPORTUNITY: Orchard and Cidery Partnership Potential – Lasqueti Island, BC

We have more land opportunities than what is listed here! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at land@youngagrarians.org to access our full land inventory and B.C. Land Matching Program support in your region.

ABOUT THE FARM

I have 35 acres of land on Lasqueti, a small, off-the-grid island in the middle of the Georgia Strait. We have 1 acre of netted blueberries, ½ acre of hascaps (honeyberries) and approximately 10 acres of fruit and nut trees including apple, plum, pear, cherry, figs and hazelnuts.

Everything is deer fenced and irrigated. The blueberries are sold locally to a growing market and we also run a nano land based cidery which also has a good local market. Farm buildings include a large barn which houses the cidery and there are existing housing possibilities. The farm was certified organic for many years in the past and while it is not currently certified we still strongly adhere to organic farming practices. There is plenty of opportunities for growth and I am open to new ideas that will add to the potential of the farm.

What I am looking for in a partnership:

I would like to partner with an experienced couple with a strong farming background. Having a knowledge of chemistry would also be helpful with work in the cidery. You would have to be willing to put in the long hours that successful farming requires and be ready for a unique experience on an isolated, off the grid, rural island.

Opportunities for you:

I would like to offer an initial 2 year internship with a small initial financial investment after which I am open to exploring our options further if it feels like a good fit. I want you to see what we have running here and what you could offer, in terms of ideas and experience, to enhance it. There is room for you to run your own market garden, 10 acres that could be used to raise animals or perhaps you have some great ideas to add to our cidery.
If you are interested please contact me via email with your ideas and references at cindy.craven@yahoo.com
