Big Rock Ranch in 100 Mile House, BC is seeking Farm Hands for the 2021 season!

About Big Rock Ranch

Big Rock Ranch is a 148-acre farm, a short 15 minute drive from the historic town of 100 Mile House, in Buffalo Creek BC. Here we grow many varieties of vegetables on 2 acres, raise heritage chickens for eggs, care for our hive of honey bees, have 3 lovely horses, and 2 wonderful farm dogs.. We sell our produce at the South Cariboo Farmers Market, in a CSA box program and to local restaurants/grocery stores from Spring to Fall every year.

Big Rock Ranch is a family run farm where sustainability and ecological practices are at its core. We believe strongly in keeping our food as close to its source as nature intended, with a large focus on animal welfare and soil health. We feel strongly about building community, our local economy and supporting it by investing locally. We focus on raising heritage chickens free range rotationally on pasture, invest in the health of our soils with low till practices and lots of compost, and are focused on environmentally aware farming practices. We are currently in transition organic and should be certified by July 2021.

Desired Qualities

We are looking for someone who has a good work ethic, isn’t afraid of hard physical work, and is willing to work in all weather; someone who can work in a team as well as independently and can be self motivated when it comes to completing tasks. Experience working on a farm, with farm machinery, and carpentry skills would all be great assets to this job.. Ideal candidate would be someone who’s recently graduated from an agriculture program and/or who’s invested and interested in farming as a career path.

Job Tasks

On a week to week basis we will be prepping beds, seeding, transplanting, cultivating, pruning, harvesting, packing, selling at markets, making deliveries, building farm projects, rotationally moving our chickens, checking in on our bee hives, etc.

Job Details

Term: We are looking to fill 2 positions starting May 2021 for a full season of work from May 2021-October 2021.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8hrs daily, 5 days a week.

Wage: We’re offering full room, board and $15/hr for these positions.
