Belle-Isle Farm in Victoria, BC is seeking a Part-time Farm Hand or farming collaborator!
ABOUT Belle-Isle Farm
Belle-Isle Farm is a 1 acre market garden tucked against the North Side of Mount PKOLS.
We grow a wide seasonal variety of fruits and vegetables, using all organic inputs and practices (but without a certification).
The majority of our produce grown goes to our veggie box program (CSA), with the rest being sold at the Esquimalt Farmers Market and some local grocery stores.
The majority of the farm work is done with hand tools and with the help of a rototiller and weedwacker.
Over the years, this wonderful little farm project has been tended to with great care and a lot of love by many farmers. With small-scale organic farming practices, we aim to reduce environmental costs of food and cultivate a rich and thriving ecosystem to nurture all living organisms on the farm. Through the passion of all involved over the years, the farm has fostered a special community that continues to grow today.
We are committed to being a queer farm and continuously working towards creating space in agriculture for queer and trans bodies to exist.
We also want to acknowledge the role of colonial agriculture in the active colonization of these unceded Lekwungen territories, and in particular our position as settlers farming on the land of the W̱SÁNEĆ people. As settlers on these lands, we are in the process of learning how we can grow and tend to this garden while trying to figure out how to decolonize farming.
