Little Mountain Farm in Salmon Arm, BC is hiring two enthusiastic individuals interested in highly productive food-growing techniques including aquaponics!
ABOUT LITTLE MOUNTAIN FARM
An exciting opportunity exists for a couple to work, live and be part of a highly productive sustainable farm located in Salmon Arm B.C. Canada. The ideal candidates to fill this position would be a younger couple with excitement and enthusiasm for highly productive food-growing techniques. Our farm is currently producing free-range chicken eggs from our 400 hens, and spray-free hydroponic greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and bell peppers. This winter we’re excited to start building a RAS Coho salmon aquaculture facility to transition the hydroponic veggies to organic aquaponics production.
We also operate a farm market on-site that is located minutes from downtown and has been growing steadily. We have plans to expand our market to include other farmers in the area to make this into a daily farmers market. Opportunity also exists to develop your own market garden or agribusiness to coincide with our eggs and greenhouse vegetables.
Our motto is: Embrace technology to create and market food that’s healthy and sustainable. Currently, our farm is growing vegetables hydroponically but with the addition of the planned aquaculture facility, we will be transitioning our hydroponic crop to utilize fish waste that will allow us to produce organic vegetables.
DESIRED QUALITIES
The ideal candidates would be a couple that is reliable, honest, hardworking, and enthusiastic with a willingness to learn. We are looking for 2 employees, 1 full-time and 1 part-time. Past experience in aquaculture, agriculture, animal husbandry, construction, operating machinery, machinery maintenance, retail experience, social media, greenhouse, and market gardening would be an asset.
APPRENTICESHIP TASKS
- Construction of RAS
- Construction of farm market
- Greenhouse work (planting, pruning, picking)
- Tending to our animals’ daily needs
- Staffing our Saturday farmer’s markets
- Creating content for social media
- Tending to our farm market
- General farm maintenance
JOB DETAILS
Term: We are looking to fill this position, winter 2022/spring of 2023 this a long-term position
Hours per week: Full time
Wage: Competitive salary or wage based on your skill set: $17-$20/hr for the part time position and $20-$30/hr for the full time position.
These positions also require that the candidates are willing to relocate to Salmon Arm B.C. and live on site in a private 1200 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 2 bath home.
