Square Root Farm in Saanichton, BC is seeking two farm workers!
ABOUT Square Root Farm
Square Root is in Central Saanich on 7 acres of rented land in the Mount Newton Valley at 1438 Mt Newton Cross-Road. We started our farm in 2006, inspired by the great local farmers we apprenticed with. We are certified organic and most of our work is done by hand with care and precision, but tractors and other equipment do some of the heavy lifting. We grow all kinds of vegetables just about year-round for the farmers market, our CSA and for restaurants.
Our farm is small, but bigger than some people might consider small. We run a busy and fast-paced farm, and our goals are to produce the best quality vegetables we can in a safe, efficient and fair environment.
DESIRED QUALITIES
We’re looking for an applicant who ideally has some related experience and has an easy time working as part of a team: we work closely together and we’re all trying to get the job done well. We want to work with someone who:
- Has farming or related food work experience
- Can work outside in any weather
- Can commit to helping for the full season
- Is able to do repetitive physically demanding tasks
- Is conscientious and careful about maintaining a healthy, efficient and safe workplace
- Has a great work ethic and a positive attitude
- Wants to learn our methods and farm systems
JOB TASKS
As part of the team your duties typically fall into three main areas:
- picking and bunching crops to order
- seeding and planting crops out into the soil
- weeding by hand and with hoes
JOB DETAILS
We are hiring for two positions!
Term: Positions start in May and continue to October
Hours per week: Range from 24-36 hours/week depending on your availability including alternating 4 hour market shifts on Saturdays.
Wage: $18-22, depending on experience
