Goonieland Permaculture Farm in Golden, BC is seeking a Construction & Farm Hand!
ABOUT Goonieland Permaculture Farm
We are a small farm/homestead on 200 Acres of forested hillside near Golden, BC. We produce forest-raised pork, free-range eggs, hemp, and vegetables on a small scale (we are not a market garden).
We run a health food store in Golden where we sell our products. We also run a small camp & glamping area, host occasional workshops and specialize in hempcrete building and natural plasters.
We follow Permaculture principles and Brian is self-trained in Korean Natural Farming.
Our vision is to build an off-grid permaculture-based community and private society or private members association PMA.
DESIRED QUALITIES
- Interested and engaged in all aspects small scale farming
- Knowledge of permaculture principals
- Experience with basic tools and construction
- Ability to do physical labour on a day-to-day basis, being physically fit and able to lift weight in the range of 30 to 80 pounds is essential.
- Good communication skills
- Ability to ask questions, ask for help when unsure, and report back to management.
- Comfortably making decisions, executing tasks, and training others.
- Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and calmly in physically challenging contexts for long hours in variable weather is essential to enjoying work on the farm.
JOB TASKS
- Gardens: watering, weeding, pruning, harvesting, seeding
- Animals: feeding, watering, moving animals, changing bedding, collecting eggs
- Building: Basic construction skills and ability to use various hand tools like skillsaws, drivers, drills
- Clearing Brush
- Assisting in organizing around the farm and general farm clean up.
- Occasional assistance in change-overs in the glamping ground.
JOB DETAILS
Term: May 1 – Oct 31st
Hours per week: 35 hrs/week. Two days off/week.
Wage: $20-24.00/hour, depending on experience
A $1000 bonus is given at the end of the contract (Oct 31st) if the contract is completed.
Room & Board are included if needed.
- Room will be in a holiday trailer with heat, outdoor heated showers and outhouse.
- Meals are shared in our outdoor kitchen cabin; breakfast is self-serve while lunch & dinner are shared, cooking/cleaning/eating. You are welcome to feed yourself if you prefer.
