Tattam Valley Farms in Duncan, British Columbia is seeking a Farm Worker!
ABOUT Tattam Valley Farms
Tattam Valley Farms produces mostly vegetables with some fruit on a 1/3 of an acre in the Cowichan Valley. The work is completed mostly by hand with light machinery used. Some machines used are a gas weed eater and rototiller. Customers pick-up their CSA vegetable box at the farm on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. Facebook, and other online sites are used to market the garden.
Finding “my” customers for the right fit. Making sure my visions will fit the right people. I feel that farming allows me to be more in tune with the cycle of life. Being outside and problem-solving is my favorite thing. I love watching all my vegetables grow and chatting with the customers when they come and pick them up. I want to supply naturally grown food for people in my community. Although I am not certified organic, I only use organic practices in my garden. No pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or herbicides are used in the process.
DESIRED QUALITIES
I am looking for an energetic student (post-secondary) wanting to learn new skills in vegetable farming with sustainable practices. Duties include; planting, watering, weeding, and picking on an organic farm. Some interaction with customers and marketing can be explored as well. The job will be seasonal from the late spring into the early fall.
The candidate will need to be enrolled in post secondary education for the fall, because I have applied for funding to help cover the cost of wages through ECO Canada and CAHRC. Student should be studying environmental, or science studies, or agriculture and/or STEM programs to qualify for the wage subsidy. No particular skills are necessary, accept the willingness and enthusiasm to learn and work hard outside.
Please see links to see if you fit the criteria. Students/candidates should be interested in agriculture and environmental studies. I can only hire a student who meets the criteria of the ECO Canada or CAHRC criteria. Contact me if there are any questions.
