Sept 18, 2026: Clearwater, MB – Farm Tour at The Dogs Run Farm

You’re invited to a Farm Tour at The Dogs Run Farm near Clearwater, Manitoba! Join us to learn about mixed regenerative farming from first-generation farmers Katie and Colin McInnes.

The Dogs Run Farm encompasses just under twelve acres on a beautiful valley, with a small creek and over 300 acres of rented pasture. Katie and Colin use ecological and regenerative farming practices and principles of organic farm management to raise pastured pigs, laying hens, turkeys, sheep, and cattle. They also make handmade soap using lard from their pigs and flowers from their garden, and market all of their meat and products direct to consumers. 

Come spend the afternoon exploring the world of mixed livestock farming and direct marketing with us! You’ll have a chance to meet the animals and ask lots of questions about first-generation farming. Longtime Dogs Run Farm seasonal worker, Katheryn (now in her fourth year on the farm) started as an apprentice in the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship Program and will be joining the tour to talk about her experience in the program and on the farm. We hope you can join us – all are welcome!

Located just a few miles from the famous Harvest Moon Festival, this tour is a great addition to the festive weekend (the festival starts Friday night). Farm products from The Dogs Run Farm  and other farms from the area will be available for purchase at the farmer’s market at the festival on the Saturday and Sunday.

DIRECTIONS/PARKING: Please drive into the yard and you will be directed from there. The farm house phone number will be available to registered participants in the event they are unable to find the farm.

BRING:

• Clothing for the weather, including sturdy shoes for a pasture walk
• Clean shoes if you you have been on a livestock or poultry farm, to avoid spreading sickness to the animals
• Full water bottle + snacks

ACCESSIBILITY: The bathroom in the house is available – please note that there are several sets of stairs to access it. The farm has rough and uneven terrain, long grass, and many gopher holes. There is no cell phone reception on the farm.

About the Farmers

Colin and Katie met in 2012 and moved from Winnipeg to the Clearwater area in 2013. They rented farmland for two years to start up their small farm dream, beginning with pigs, sheep, chickens, laying hens, geese and a garden. By the fall of 2013 they had enough food to sell to a customer base beginning in Winnipeg. In 2015, they purchased land of their own west of Clearwater, where they continue to grow their farm and create relationships with their customers.

They are both first-generation farmers, which means that neither of them grew up on a farm or comes from a farming background. Their farm experience comes from many sources, including apprenticeships, WWOOFing, farm tours, educational classes, friends and mentors, as well as their years of farming as a partnership together.

Colin and Katie acknowledge the support they have received from family, friends, neighbours and organizations. They acknowledge the deep honour of stewarding the land, and that their place in Treaty One Territory is one of privilege that carries the responsibilities of working towards equity and justice for all peoples. They are committed to the ongoing work of learning about our place in the future of food justice and all that it intersects. They are conscientious, careful people, who strive to live in integrity with others, and with warmth, decency and humour.  They care deeply about the wellbeing of their community, their animals, their customers, and all visitors to the farm.

• This event is free and open to everyone! Supervised children are welcome
• Please leave furry friends at home
• Please stay home if you have cold or flu symptoms
• Please do not bring alcohol to this event
• Please wash your shoes before visiting the farm, especially if you work on or have visited a farm recently

These farms are committed to helping train the next generation of farmers and ranchers.
