August 30, 2026: Revelstoke, BC – Farm Tour and Potluck at BirdTree Urban Farm

You’re invited to a Farm Tour and Breakfast Potluck at BirdTree Urban Farm in Revelstoke, BC!

BirdTree Urban Farm is a small-scale urban market garden operating on several plots of land in Revelstoke (two of which were accessed through B.C. Land Matching Program). As the owner and operator of BirdTree Urban Farm, Kristina grows annual and perennial vegetables, berries, and flowers, which she sells through the local farmers’ market, custom wedding arrangements, and seasonal flower subscriptions.

During the tour, Kristina will share her experience of scaling up her home gardening into a viable urban farm business. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions about farm start-up, small-scale market gardening, land sharing, and the logistics of operating across multiple sites. There will be plenty of time to socialize and enjoy a light breakfast potluck together.

Nyree, the Land Matcher for the Columbia Basin and the Kootenays, will also be there to discuss how she can help you find a farmer for your land, or farmland where you can build your dream farm business. If you’re curious what land matching is all about – or just want to check out what your local farmers are up to – come on out to enjoy a potluck meal and explore this urban farm!

LOCATION: Sinixt, Secwépemc, Ktunaxa and Syilx Territories. 1735 Westerburg Rd, Revelstoke, BC

DIRECTIONS/PARKING: The farm is located on Westerburg Road, off of Airport Way, close to the airport. We encourage all attendees to make use of the available street parking on Westerburg Road, as parking space on the property is limited. Carpooling is encouraged – if you are looking for or can offer a ride to or from the event, you can organize carpooling through the Facebook event (coming soon).

ACCESSIBILITY: The growing space is located down a laneway from the main road, and the ground surface on the farm is grassy and uneven. Note that there are no washroom facilities available on the farm. If you have any accessibility needs, please get in touch at nyree@youngagrarians.org.

BRING: You are invited to bring a light breakfast food item to contribute to the potluck. If you can, please include a little card with ingredients, for folks with food sensitivities.

Please bring your own plate, cutlery and cup and plan on packing your items back home to clean, as there is no washing station available. Bring along a chair or blanket to sit on, a water bottle, and any sunscreen and insect repellant you might need. Make sure to wear weather and farm-suitable clothing and footwear, as the event will proceed rain or shine.

ABOUT THE FARMER

Kristina Metzlaff started out growing commercially by tearing up her lawn to build a bio-intensive market garden, making the most of her quarter-acre space in Revelstoke. Since then, Kristina’s focus on food security and high-quality produce and bouquets have created a growing demand for her locally-grown vegetables and flowers. When Kristina began expanding her land base in 2020, she reached out to the B.C. Land Matching Program, searching for a lease agreement that would offer her security and confidence while leasing land. She has since been matched with two landholders through the B.C. Land Matching Program.
