This land opportunity is located in Passmore, a small but engaged community situated on the banks of the Little Slocan River just south of the Valhalla mountain range. The property has 8 acres of cultivable land surrounded by woodlot and wetland on a total of 37 acres.

The current owners have owned the land for 45 years and have farmed it intensively and organically for over 20 years. The cleared areas of the property, from market garden to pasture, are fenced, have water access and are already in or ready for cultivation.

The property has wifi but no cell service and is located about a 5 minute drive from Highway 6, accessed by a public gravelled road. The driving time to Slocan, Nelson and Castlegar is about 30 minutes.

The farm is certified organic, with a large market garden, beef cattle, chickens for meat and eggs, a 20 x 70-foot greenhouse, berry bushes and fruit trees.

Three generations of land owners currently reside on the property together. Shared use of a work shop with tools, outbuildings, large root cellar, walk-in cooler and greenhouse can be made available for use by the farmer/s. There are two tractors and other power equipment available.

The property has served as an “incubator farm” for several young farmers. The land owners are farmers with decades of experience, though they respect new farmers’ preference for how they want to learn. For these land owners, mutual respect and clear communication are key!

The situation is ideal for a couple or young family interested in developing an organic market garden or fruit operation. As long-time residents of the Slocan Valley, the land owners are a great resource for farmers looking to connect with the local farming and wider community.

There is housing available on a trial basis. The land owners would like to assess fit and interests first, hoping to make a long-term arrangement with the right individuals.
