Peace Country Winter Mixer 2020 Recap

A great group of farmers and farmer friends came together during the third Young Agrarians Peace Country Mixer! Camp Tamarack was filled with laughter, knowledge, expertise, interesting and curious talk during the weekend of February 22nd and 23rd, 2020. Farmers traveled from far and wide to be part of the networking and education. The farmer speed dating was a great way for everyone to meet each other! 2020 Columbia Basin Event Series Announced!

Join Young Agrarians on farms across the Columbia Basin for an event series this season featuring 7 farms and even more food and farming entrepreneurs! The 2020 event series will be focused on collaborations with the YA Business Mentorship Network (BMN) and B.C. Thanks to the farms and friends who hosted and the generous support of Columbia Basin Trust, Young Agrarians was able to organize seven different on-farm and educational events across the region in 2019 and early 2020. We learned about tools, seed saving, nurseries, fermentation, mushrooms and more, we toured some groundbreaking farms, and we shared meals with new and old friends. EVENT RECAP: Wet and Wild Farming Fungi Forum

Nearly 50 people joined Young Agrarians at Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort on Sunday, February 16, 2020, for a half-day of discussions all about farming and fungi! This inaugural event solely about MUSHROOMS filled up in two days after registration opened, with a waiting list. People joined us from as far away as Armstrong, Revelstoke and Naksup. EVENT SERIES: Tackling the Farm Crisis & the Climate Crisis National Farmers Union Youth President Stuart Oke, will explore the connections between the farm income crisis and the climate crisis and ways farmers can increase revenues and help to mitigate the effects of climate change. EVENT RECAP: CENTRAL ALBERTA WINTER MIXER 2020

The Central Alberta Winter Mixer was a fantastic weekend full of inspiring and passionate people! Despite the frigid temperatures, more than 80 people participated over the two days. Some highlights of the Mixer included fun networking activities (the Chicken Mingle was a hit!), an impressive potluck and jam session on Saturday evening, farmer slide shows that featured ten different farms, and farmer yoga on Sunday morning with retired-farmer-turned-yoga-teacher Kathleen Charpentier. Over the two days we also had twelve speakers and workshop hosts share their skills and knowledge.
