Saanich: Little Mountain Farm is looking for a Farm Partner!

Posted by Sara Dent on December 06, 2014

Hello!

I am looking for someone to come grow organic veggies with me!

The business is called Little Mountain Farm (www.littlemountainveggies.ca), and we grow food for our community here in Saanich.  We are located on a beautiful, quiet 16 acres backing onto Mt. Doug and have 1 acre deer fenced, with about half of that currently cultivated.

I started the farm last year with a friend who has moved away – so I need someone to take her place and come work alongside me!

We worked hard to build what we did over the last season: we have a 50′ greenhouse, beautiful drip tape irrigation system, wash station, etc.   We have an established customer base and sell our produce at a market or two and also through a CSA box program.

I am not looking for someone to buy into the business necessarily; I am looking for someone to share this awesome farm with, (everything is set up and ready to go!) as well as the responsibility that comes along with it.

This farm has so much potential!  I am into collaborative farming and am excited to expand on what we have built so far, share ideas and inspiration with a farm partner, learn from and teach each other, share the ups and downs that are inevitable and to be there to give each other the opportunity to take a break when the need arises.

Last year we also worked off the farm part time, (working about three days on and three days off farm), and we split everything (income and expenses) 50/50.

How much you work and what you would earn off the land is open to negotiation, depending on what you are looking for.

This really is flexible though, and it may be that more than two of us end up farming here, we can create whatever is the best fit for the right people.

I am looking forward to sharing another great season with someone who is able to commit for the season, has at least a couple seasons of farming experience, is positive, a good communicator, passionate, hard working and keen to have fun and make this season the best it can be.  You will ideally have a vehicle as well as going to market, box deliveries, etc. will also be shared responsibilities.

There is potential for you to live on the farm as well (paying rent, unfortunately I am not able to offer free housing).  I live in one of two suites in a house on the property so that is an option that can be discussed.

Please get in touch if this sounds interesting.  There is lots of flexibility to figure out the ideal arrangement, so lets start a conversation!

Thanks!  Azja
