ABOUT KINSOL VALLEY FARM
Kinsol Valley Farm is 12 acres, pasture, vegetable and herb production, orchard, wood lot and boggy bottom land. We are about 12 km south west of Duncan, rural, gravel road, poor cell reception peaceful and quiet.
We have been expanding the last couple of years and are needing more help this coming year. I am a builder by trade and have taken the farm from bush to what it is now over the last 35 years. At present we have a flock of laying hens, some sheep and our fruit, vegetable and herb production. A couple of years ago I started growing herbs for Robin Round owner of a herbal company called Botanical Bliss. Last year we did a lot of clearing of trees and tripled our garden space as well as started building a 1300 sq. ft. greenhouse. We have and use basic farming tools tractor, tillers, plow etc. We have been supplying a couple of local businesses with some produce this year and are aiming to build on those relationships next year with more fruit and vegetables.
Our farm is non-certified organic. We believe in and practice sustainable living as much as possible. We try to utilize everything we produce, whether it be sold, dried,canned or stored for winter use. We primarily heat with wood from our wood lot. We are looking into producing some of our electricity in the next couple of years and just generally want to live as self sustainable as possible.
We are looking for a couple of people hat will fit in here, people that want to live a healthy lifestyle, not afraid of work rain or shine, team players and most of all self starters. You must have a genuine interest in sustainable living and have some experience in general gardening and farm work. Currently there are people here from age 2 years old to me in my 60’s.
You would be expected to be involved with most aspects of growing and marketing vegetables. Planning, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, marketing and some delivery at times.
Duration: The position is open now, we would like to find someone in the next couple of months. The duration would be long term if things work out.
Hours per week & accommodation: We are expecting you to work about 8 hrs per week, based on $15.00/hr. The arrangement is flexible.
For accommodation, we are offering a private upper suite as accommodation in exchange for 33 hrs per month of farm labour, plus $500 per month rent. The suite is one bedroom, bath, kitchen, and living room. Laundry is available up 2 flights of outside stairs. There is a phone line available, shared internet and shared hydro. Cell reception is poor. If things work out you could put in more hrs and have a share in profit, or possibly have your own piece of garden. The arrangement is flexible.
