Young Agrarians Central Alberta Regional Coordinator

Organic Alberta is looking for an outgoing, self-motivated, highly organized person to join our team as a Young Agrarians (YA) Regional Coordinator. Young Agrarians is a program of Organic Alberta and has been formally delivered in the province since January 2016. The mission of this program is to “grow the next generation of ecological farmers in Alberta.”

The YA Regional Coordinator will work to support programming in the Central Alberta region including Young Agrarians farm tours and potlucks and the Central Alberta Winter Mixer. This position will also be responsible for building partnerships with municipalities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Regional Knowledge & Intelligence Gathering
    • Building relationships in the region
    • Cultivating local supports and future sponsors
    • Gathering demographic data on new farmers in the region
    • Understanding the needs of new farmers in the region
  • Plan YA events (workshops, conferences, etc.) in the region
    • Organizing planning team
    • Coordinating speakers and activities
    • Taking registrations
    • Arranging meals
    • Promotion
    • Building relationships with sponsors and community partners including Parkland Country
  • Communications & Promotion
    • Promoting events and opportunities to farmers within the region
    • Sharing stories on the YA blog and social media
    • Adding resources from the region to the YA U-Map
  • Partnership Development
    • Identifying municipalities to approach regarding new farmer programming
    • Coordinating meetings with partner representatives
    • Developing proposals for support

Qualifications:

  • Passion for local food and organic agriculture
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Technologically literate
  • Dependable, self-starter who is comfortable working independently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

 Assets:

  • Experience working with grass-roots organizing and networking
  • Experience with local food and organic agriculture
  • Experience with event planning and coordination

Position details: 

  • Contract position for 20 – 24 hours per week
  • Location: work from home
