Info You Should Know:
We (Ruth and Katie) started City Beet Farm in 2013 and have grown from a 26-member CSA to a 75-member CSA. We provide vegetables for 23-25 weeks of the year from late April until mid-October. We are mostly bicycle-powered and all of our farms are within 10 blocks (mostly less) of each other to make this convenient and efficient. We have a partnership with a local coffee shop where we do our CSA pick ups and vegetable sales. We have consistently sold out of our CSA every year and have a strong customer base and a high return rate (except for when we date our CSA members and this is how we get the most attrition). We operate with two full-time farmers from April – July and two part-time farmers from February-March and August- October. (Ruth and Katie are always the two farmers).
Who We Are Looking For:
One or two people with farming background/experience/skills/training who are passionate about local food, building community, and loving this work as much as we do. We are happy to mentor and support the right people to take it over smoothly, and obviously we care a lot about our land owners and CSA members and want them to be happy with this transition. Ideally, you would take over between November 2016 – February 2017 to start off the 2017 growing season.
The Details/ What is Included (Basically everything you need to run our farm is included):
Growing space: 8 front yards, turned from grass to urban farm and amended with compost, total space: 10,000 sq ft.
Equipment: Irrigation (drip and overhead), timers, greenhouse, greenhouse infrastructure (tables, two watering cans (WHAT!)), two bike trailers, planting trays, market tables, harvest bins, harvest knives, half a bag of elastic bands, display baskets, seeds, industrial salad spinner, weigh scales.
Marketing: Professionally designed website/logo, social media accounts, farm signs, mailchimp subscriber list, wide customer base.
Farm Truck: Possible option of acquiring our farm truck as well.
$35,000. This price is somewhat negotiable for the right candidate(s), and is based on the 4 years of love and sweat we have put into this and building it from the ground up. To put the price in perspective, in one year of operation at the same size we are at, you could make more than the cost of the business.
We are happy to meet with anyone interested, but serious inquiries only please.
