Name? Emily Jubenvill, Enderberry Farm

Where do you farm? Enderby, BC

What do you farm? Mixed veggies, berries, laying hens, and a small heard of dairy goats.

What type of business structure is your farm? Currently we are a partnership, but we hope to become a cooperative!

What is your land tenure? Are there special relationships that allow for this? We own the land – two couples purchased together last year.

How did you seriously get into farming? I worked in community food security and urban farming in the lower mainland for almost ten years and wanted to take the big step into farming on a larger scale. It’s happening!

Why did you apply for the YA Business Mentorship Network? I wanted to connect with other young farmers and to learn from an experienced farmer from my area. We’re just starting our in the North Okanagan, so it has been great to have a mentor that knows the area and network of farmers up here. Also to assist in wrapping my head around the change in scale of our farming from urban to multiple acres!

What is the greatest business challenge you face as a young farmer? Access to capital to start out, and business and crop planning in a changing climate.

What are your business goals for the season? Get a new farm started!

What business tools could you not live without? My ho-mi digger and excel.

If you had a farming super power what would it be? Positivity in the face of daunting tasks and intramuscular shots to livestock.

What is your favourite farm book? Anything by Eliot Coleman

Funding for the Young Agrarians Business Mentorship Network Pilot is provided in part by Salt Spring Coffee, Vancity, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the BC Ministry of Agriculture through programs delivered by the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC.
