The 5th Okanagan Winter Mixer brought together @ 100 people over the weekend to learn, share skills, and make new connections. It was a fantastic group with lots of familiar faces and a whole bunch of new ones. A huge thank you to all our amazing speakers – you were engaging, thoughtful, and inspiring!  Kwantlen Polytechnic University presents this Short Course: Business Planning for a New Farm. Managing your farm as a business is an important but often neglected component of operating a farm. Recent research shows that farmers who create and use business planning are more confident, more profitable and more able to take advantage of new opportunities. ABOUT SALIX AND SEDGE Salix and Sedge is a certified organic farm located in the Salmo Valley, and is owned and operated by Brendan and Cali who began farming in 2015. On about 1.5 acres of land, we produce a large variety of vegetables for our Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) program, the Farmers Market, and for some local retailers. Our farm is situated next to a forested wetland ecosystem, and is just on the edge of town. We, Cecilia and Kevin, are start-up farmers at Ceres Circle Farm, an operation that has recently been gifted by its founder and currently under transition to a land trust by the BC Foodlands Cooperative. The farm will be operated as a cooperative owned by the community of Kelowna, serving as a flagship enterprise displaying the potential and importance of local foodsheds.
