Little Mountain Farm

Little Mountain Farm in Saanich, BC, is seeking a part-time farm apprentice for the 2018 season.

Little Mountain Farm is a one-acre mixed vegetable farm located near Mt Doug. We grow intensively on this small scale and do most tasks by hand, our only machinery is a walk behind tiller. We grow primarily for our CSA (or Veggie Box program), which feeds 40-50 families per week over the course of the 26-week season (June-November) as well as one market and small wholesale orders.

We use all organic growing practices (though we are not certified organic), and operate in the most environmentally sensitive way we can.

We are looking for a hard working, responsible and positive part-time apprentice (ideally 2 days/week), who wants to learn more about small scale agriculture and the business of running a market garden and CSA.

You will help with everything from seeding and transplanting, to weeding and watering, harvesting, washing and packaging produce.

Either Azja or the other farm manager will be working with you most of the time. We generally work on tasks together and will always be available to answer questions and explain in more detail about each task as we are doing it.

We have books you can borrow as well as a community of other farmers/growers in the area. If you have a particular interest in something we will work to help you build knowledge and experience in that area, possibly through field trips to other farms!

Dates are somewhat flexible, but ideally mid-April to mid-October. The position is for 16 hours/week (this is negotiable.)

As this is a part time position room and board is not provided, though you will take home lots of farm veggies! There may be potential for renting a room in the farm house if desired.

We offer $400/month for this part time position
